The Paediatrics and Neonatal Department at MS Galaxy Hospital, Dehradun provides comprehensive healthcare for newborns, infants, children and adolescents, supported by a dedicated Level-III NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) for critically ill newborns.

Led by Dr. N. Mathur (MBBS, DNB Paediatrics) and Dr. U. Menwal (MBBS, MD Paediatrics), our department handles everything from routine newborn care and vaccinations to paediatric emergencies, neonatal resuscitation and long-term developmental follow-up for premature babies. NICU — Level III Neonatal Intensive Care

Care for premature babies (from 28 weeks), neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), birth asphyxia, neonatal sepsis, jaundice requiring phototherapy, and babies born with congenital abnormalities requiring stabilisation.

Newborn Care

Assessment and care of all newborns including APGAR scoring, vitamin K administration, hearing screening, newborn metabolic screening and breastfeeding support.

Paediatric Emergencies

Febrile seizures, severe dehydration, acute respiratory distress, anaphylaxis and paediatric trauma — managed by our 24×7 emergency team.

Immunisation & Vaccination

Complete immunisation as per Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) schedule — BCG, OPV, DPT, Hepatitis B, Hib, Rotavirus, Pneumococcal, MMR, Varicella, and all recommended vaccines.

Growth & Developmental Assessment

Paediatric Consultation

Dr. Mathur or Dr. Menwal examines the child with the parent present. Age-appropriate growth charts are reviewed. Vaccination status checked.

Investigations

Blood count, blood culture, urine culture, chest X-Ray, blood sugar — appropriate tests ordered with minimal blood sampling for children.

NICU Admission

Premature or critically ill newborns are admitted to our Level-III NICU — incubator care, phototherapy, IV fluids, oxygen support and ventilation if required.

Medical Management

Antibiotics, antivirals, bronchodilators — weight-based precise dosing. Nutrition optimised — parenteral nutrition in the NICU when required.

Developmental Follow-up

All NICU graduates are followed up at regular intervals — 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and annually — to monitor neurodevelopmental progress.
